Current local priorities
Consultation with the community has identified the following priorities that we will be concentrating on over the coming months:
Houghton on the Hill has suffered two robbery offences within 24 hours within the centre of the village. These offences occured in the public view and within a busy part of the village on the Main Street and Weir Road junction.
The type of offence has caused residents and service users of the village to be concerned given the violent nature of the offences and the fact that they have both been targetted at female drivers of parked vehilces at specific times in the evening.
The community are concerned by the type of offences - robbery, the violent nature of them and the fact they feel in fear of violence and being a victim
Issued: March 2019
What we are doing:Police presence in the village was increased and we made efforts to be at topical locations suc as outside the CO-OP where we know offences have occured and at the relevant timescales. A public meeting was held in the village and attended by around 80 local residents and chaired by the local ward councillor Mr Galton. The meeting was productive and allowed all parties to have their say and inform us of their concerns. A number of actions were taken away to be progressed:- - Street lighting. It was agreed the Police would support an application to have the lighting turned back on this. This has happened and the lights are currently back on - Communoty Protection Notice to be explored against the premises (business) to address the behaviour and actions of those linked and associated to it - The supported living accomodation was raised as a concern and it was known one of the suspects resides there. It was agreed both the police and the councillor would explore the operate model and its accountability - Continued Police presence - A further meeting This is in the planning stages and being progressed Issued: March 2019
